Fashion Glossary Friday: Hipster Style

Fashion Glossary Friday is going to be a weekly series of posts that creates a glossary of different fashion styles. These posts will also feature thrift store finds exhibiting the style of the week.

This week's post is dedicated to Hipster style. Hipster style is an appropriate first post for my Fashion Glossary because it has its roots in inexpensive thrift shopping.

Merriam-Webster defines a hipster as a person who is unusually aware of and interested in new and unconventional patterns (as in jazz or fashion). In other words, Hipster style is characterized by its non-mainstream sensibility.

Like I mentioned above, the way hipsters originally achieved this counter culture aesthetic was by shopping for unique clothing at thrift stores.

Trendy Tuesday: Leopard Print

Trendy Tuesday is going to be a weekly series of posts centered around an upcoming fall trend.

This week's post is dedicated to one of my all-time favorite fashion trends: leopard print. I didn't know that  leopard print had ever gone out of style, but I'm absolutely thrilled that it is officially the it print this fall.

Leopard print is a great fashion statement for 4 reasons:
1. I like to think of leopard print as a neutral color. This means that it goes with everything. (When I say everything, I mean everything)
2. Because it is neutral, it makes it super fun to mix with other patterns
3. Mixing leopard print with other patterns or solid colors instantly makes any outfit visually interesting
4. Leopard print will never be truly out of style. Even if it is not exactly en trend, it still looks great.

Are there other ways you like to wear leopard print? Comment your ideas below.

*All of the items I featured on this post cost $5 or less each and most were purchased at Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores. Not only were these purchases easy on my wallet, they helped fund programming for people in need.

About This Blog

#thrifted is all about the good that can come from thrift shopping. Never thrift shopped before? Don't worry I don't have much experience in it either. As someone who loves fashion, however, I have found a wide array of stylish clothing and other items at thrift shops for everyday low prices. Even better than finding those one-of-a-kind items, thrift shopping is socially responsible. Something I just learned: the profits earned from frequenting thrift stores, such as Saint Vincent de Paul, stay in our community and help fund programs that aid people in need. Shopping and helping people at the same time: What could be better?

This blog will showcase my journey as I learn how to get the most out of thrift shopping. I hope to share helpful tips on how to thrift shop, showcase unique thrift items I find at the SVDP stores, and inform you how thrift shopping helps other people.
